Miles Pfitzner's Melbourne Cup Tips
It looks like Melbourne will turn it on for another great edition of the Cup. I think six horses have the chance to win this year and I will be including these in my exotic numbers; 5. Vauban, 3. Without A Fight, 1. Gold Trip, 8. Right You Are, 15. Lastotchka and 6. Soulcombe.
Clearly have Vauban on top but the price is short enough so hopefully a few of you were on earlier when he’s been mentioned. Without A Fight is the clear danger after the brilliant Caulfield Cup win. Last years winner, Gold Trip, has been racing well without winning, if you need reminding of his ability watch the Turnbull replay and Vauban can go close. A few more that wouldn’t shock me are Right You Are, Lastotchka and Soulcombe.
I think Right You Are could cause a roughie blowout, he isn’t hopeless and should get a great steer from Johnny Allen, no concerns with the barrier as there is plenty of time to get forward and slide over down the straight. Exotics around my numbers is how I’m playing the Cup. Not going overly hard. Enjoy the day.
Clare Lindop's Melbourne Cup Tips
Gold Trip ($6.50 / $2.40) has been outstanding this preparation, and I would love to see him go back-to-back! Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace are the currently leading the Australian Trainers Premiership, and they report that the 7YO entire is in great shape, and arguably going better than last year.
While 58.5kg is a lot of weight to be giving a few of the sneaky lightweights, I am confident from what I have seen that Gold Trip will have no issues in running well with 58.5kg (only 1kg more than the 57.5kg he won with last year). Brave 3rd in the Caufield Cup with the winner (Without A Fight) keeping him crowded for room and was hitting the line in the Cox Plate full of running. 10 days into the Cup sees him on the same winning formula as last year.
The Mock Sports' Melbourne Cup Tips
The race that stops the nation, get ready for it, because just like every year, this edition should be an absolute cracker! We are siding with Future History ($20 / $6.00) as a bit of a value play. He ran excellently in both the Bart Cummings and Moonee Valley Cup.
He has feathers on the back, top rider is booked, and he possesses a wicked turn of foot. We would love to see Doyle become the 2nd woman to win the Cup. We have a really sneaky feeling about this horse, we think a lot of punters have forgotten about him. Fingers crossed he proves us right and gets up at big odds!
