Game 1 – Los Angeles Chargers @ New England Patriots, Monday 4th December, 5am
The Patriots are having all sorts of quarterback problems, starting last weekend’s 10-7 loss to the Giants with Mac Jones and finishing with Bailey Zappe… and both were poor. They have lost four on the bounce, whereas the Chargers have lost three straight. But quarterback isn’t their problem, with Justin Herbert playing consistently and he should get them home.
Game 2 – Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints, Monday 4th December, 5am
The Lions will start as slight favourites here despite real problems controlling the football in recent weeks. They contributed to their own downfall in last Friday’s 29-22 loss to the Packers, turning the ball over time and again. The Saints are sitting in equal top spot in the NFC South but are 5-6 following last weekend’s 24-15 loss to the Falcons. Lions quarterback Jared Goff is the key here and he should get the visitors the points in a close one.
Game 3 – Atlanta Falcons @ Net York Jets, Monday 4th December, 5am
The Jets have struggled to score points all season and are averaging under 10 points per game during a nightmare last month of four losses. Quarterback Tim Boyle threw two interceptions and was sacked seven times in last week’s 34-13 loss to Miami. The Falcons lead NFC South but have also had their issues, losing three straight before scoring a crucial 24-15 win over the Saints last weekend. They have enough class to finish fairly comfortable winners here.
Game 4 – Arizona Cardinals @ Pittsburgh Steelers, Monday 4th December, 5am
The Steelers are a team going places fast - new offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner has them firing with the football and their defence has let in just 15.7 points per game over the past six weeks. The Cardinals have had their problems this season, particularly on the road, where they have lost all six games. Their top score in those six games is 16 points and I can’t see them getting that many in Pittsburgh.
Game 5 – Cleveland Browns @ Los Angeles Rams, Monday 4th December, 8.25am
Cleveland has their problems leading into the trip to LA, with quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and defensive end Myles Garrett both in doubt with injury. If Thompson-Robinson is out, the Browns will be lucky to score double figures, and could struggle to cross the strip even if he does play against the well drilled Rams defence. I’m tipping a dour defensive struggle which should play into the home team’s hands.
