Best Bet - 8. Makarena ($2.00) - Canterbury, Race 1
The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes trained Makarena was impressive at the trials prior to a very luckless debut. She was traveling sweetly before finding the back of horses and pushed to the inferior inside going. Once clear she let down well but ran out of time.
The winner of the race Nadal has franked the form of the race running third in the Group 2 Run To The Rose Stakes last Saturday behind the Golden Slipper placed Cylinder. She strips fitter for the run and can improve sharply into this event. She maps ideally form the barrier and gets the inform Zac Lloyd in the saddle. Overall, she looks very hard to beat.
Next Best - 6. River Snitty ($4.80) - Canterbury, Race 3
River Snitty was an impressive first up winner beating the progressive James Cummings trained Razors. He then was luckless last start getting a long way back on a day it was near impossible to make ground on the Kensington track.
He reeled off some slick sectionals running the 3rd fastest L600m of the entire meeting. With the bias in mind the run’s as huge. He peaks in contain 3rd up and is racing on the quick back up. The inside draw and small field suggest he can land a lot closer run and bounce back to his best form.
Value Bet - 2. Way To The Stars ($6.50 / $2.40) - Canterbury, Race 6
The Matthew Smith trained Way To The Stars has an elite first up record with 3 wins from 3 starts. All of his best form has come when he is fresh in his racing. He has been given two impressive trials with the latest being with the group class Overpass and Red Card.
He maps ideally to land in the first four in running from barrier 3, the cherry on top is the booking of the elite Nash Rawiller who is one of the best on pace riders in Sydney. If he can get a cheap sectional in the mid stages of the race, he looks incredibly hard to hold out late. He currently looks juicy with odds at $6.50.
