Best Bet - 1. Malkovich ($3.00) - Rosehill, Race 8
We always get sucked in by trial form and this horse has it in spades. His latest trial he beat Overpass, the one before that was behind Iowna Merc, which is a horse we have a big opinion of. But Malkovich runs like a bomb fresh so while the barrier isn't amazing, he should push to the front and dictate the race. If they let him have his way, he could very well gap them and have time to walk in.
Next Best - 1. Arkansaw Kid ($2.45) - Caulfield, Race 7
We are very keen to see this horse makes the jump to 1600m as we believe it suits him to a tee. Excellent in the Coolmore Stud Stakes behind Ozzmosis a couple of starts back and then was strong again late over 1400m. Both times he just didn’t get enough time to really get going, he won’t have that problem here. There is potential for the heavens to open up on race day as well, which will only help his chances. Definitely the best bet in Melbourne on the weekend.
Value Bet - 3. Alpine Edge ($16 / $4.40) - Doomben, Race 8
Now this is a horse you don’t see at these sorts of odds very often. He is a long time blackbooker of ours and we make sure to get behind him every chance we get. He usually prefers to get a couple of runs under his belt before he truly fires, but he has won first up twice before in his career which makes us think he could certainly cause an upset here. The potential of a soft track brings him right into this one as well and we can definitely entertain him as a solid each-way chance.
