Best Bet - 9. Sequestered ($3.50) - Rosehill, Race 6
The James Cummings stable are striking at 21% over the past 365 days, that strike rates rises to 23.8% when teaming up with the inform Nash Rawiller. The pair team up here with the lightly-raced progressive Sequestered. The 4YO mare returns of a staying prep, she has looked very sharp in her two trials back with the latest over 1300m the clear pick of them.
She looked lovely in her action; the overall time was impressive as well. She can use the positive gate to land leader’s back, in a race that lacks tempo. The booking of Nash is ideal especially from that inside gate. I like backing horses first up off a staying preparation, they often have a lot of sprint in their legs. Next Best - 7. Carrazana ($2.25) - Rosehill, Race 5
The Chris Waller trained Carrazana is on a Spring Champion path. He was dominant last start on the Kensington track sustaining a impressive run from the back to win in impressive time. He also showed in his first up run he can sit close to the speed with tactical versatility, that is key for this race with the rail out +7m.
From barrier 2 he should be able to find the leader’s back, he has a superior turn of foot and is again rising another 100m in trip. He has been well supported in early markets and I suggest he will continue to shorten. This is no doubt a harder contest, but he has gears to find and looks hard to beat.
Value Bet - 5. Ithadtobezou ($10 / $3.30) - Rosehill, Race 7
Ithadtobezou was scratched at the gates last week after throwing jockey Josh Parr off at the gates. He is a dynamic fresh horse and so is the John Thompson stable. Her two trials leading into this first up run have been outstanding, she looks to have a lot of freshness in her legs and is ready to go.
The key to her chances is the inside gate and the on-pace suited Rosehill 1200m chute start. She can land in the first four in running over the suitable 1200m and prove very hard to run down. I expect her to be a strong firmer throughout the day which will add confidence to her chances.
