Best Bet - 3. Portray ($3.10) - Newcastle, Race 4
The favourite in this race will be far too hard to beat in our opinion. She should get the lead pretty easily in a race that lacks early pace and dictate the contest from the front. She has good form behind Gringotts when being narrowly beaten by him a couple of weeks ago in a very tight finish.
She has to carry a bit of extra weight here compared to the last time, but that is because she drops back to her own sex grade and doesn’t have to race against the boys, which will be a huge help. She just wins.
Next Best - 1. Much Much Better ($3.60) - Newcastle, Race 10
Much Much Better for us in the last. He is a smart horse that can really get his motor going when they press the button, and he always pops his head up from time to time and runs a really strong race. That is exactly what he did last start when leading throughout at Randwick and beat a solid field at big odds.
This is an easier field than his last, which is why he has to carry so much weight, but Anna Roper’s claim gets 3kg off of that and she is riding very strongly at the moment, so we can 100% see him getting to the front and kicking all the way down the straight.
Value Bet - 7. Wineglass Bay ($10 / $2.80) - Newcastle, Race 5
This is one of the more interesting races on the card as you have got the boom Import Imintown who led all the way and got the job done pretty strongly on Golden Eagle Day at Rosehill as the very short bottom weight favourite.
However, we just don’t know if he will get the distance, which is why we are going Wineglass Bay. Consistent character that we have backed countless times and is guaranteed to run out the distance and he is rarely out of the finish so at his price we think he is a much stronger betting prospect.
