Without further ado, see Dean Watling’s best bet, next best and value bet from around the grounds this Saturday:
Best Bet - 2. Cigar Flick ($2.60) - Randwick, Race 1
The market has slightly disrespected the Chris Waller trained 2YO here Cigar Flick. The daughter of Churchill was a smart winner on debut back in January. She then went on to contest some smart Autumn 2YO races when finishing 4th in the G3 Widden Stakes behind the impressive Learning To Fly. She has been given 16 weeks off and brought back with two quiet but impressive trials.
She had her blinkers back on in her latest trial showing smart improvement. She maps ideally here first up in the small field; I expect her to find the 1-1 and get every possible chance. The added bonus of a racing prep and a spell under her belt should prove key here for her chances. The cherry on top is the in-from Collett takes the ride.
Next Best - 11. Iowna Merc ($2.20) - Randwick, Race 9
We can forgive the last start effort of Iwona Merc. Apprentice jockey Amy Mclucas was concussed in the barrier prior to the start, Iowna Marc missed the kick and was never a winning chance. What I want take out of the run was his staring price of $2.60, that suggests there he was hard to beat.
He strips fitter again and gets the in-from Dylan Gibbons in the saddle. He maps well from barrier 8 and has plenty of options early. He brings superior ratings to an event like this matched with an electric turn of foot. If he gets clear air, he will be mighty hard to beat.
Value Bet - 1. Kir Royale ($7.00 / $2.50) - Randwick, Race 10
It is open end to the day here in race number 10. I am keen to side with the Chris Waller-trained Kir Royale. The lightly raced 4YO mare has a lovely progressive nature and looks very well placed here first up. She has a great first up record without winning, with three starts for two seconds.
She has been trialling up impressively leading into this contest, with her last trial easily the pick of them. She gets in light with the 1.5kg claim of the inform Zac Lloyd and maps to perfection from gate 7. She is a long price currently and I suggest she starts favourite for this contest. She looks a great way to run out the Randwick meeting.
