Without further ado, see Dean Watling’s best bet, next best and value bet from around the grounds this Friday:
Best Bet - 7. Miss Emma ($2.40) - Kensington, Race 1
The Chris Waller trained Miss Emma has her hoof on the till third up in her preparation. She has savaged the line both runs back this prep, the latest was at Canterbury when missing the kick slightly before having the race shape against her. Her sectionals late were up there with the best across the meeting. She now peaks third up and rises to 1300m which looks to suit, the race is void of any strong speed, from gate 3, I select her to land in the first four in running and get every possible chance. If she runs up to her last start effort or improves, she will prove hard to beat.
Next Best - 8. Zouphoria ($2.40) - Kensington, Race 2
I loved the first up run of Zouphoria who was heavily backed late in betting. She sat outside of the leader and eventual winner after doing some solid early work in the event. She balanced up well and went through her gears smoothly to only be beaten half a head. The Waterhouse and Bott camp have a terrific second up strike rate and I expect her to take solid improvement out of that run. She importantly rises to 1400m now which suits her down to the ground, she does draw wide but the race lacks speed inside of her, from the gate she can slide across and sit outside of the leader throughout. I expect her to be hard to beat.
Value Bet - 6. Venetian Blue ($5.00 / $2.00) - Kensington, Race 6
Race 6 is one of the more tricky events across the meeting to dissect, I’m happy to play Venetian Blue who has come up juicy odds first up. I have been impressed with her recent trials, finding the line well under light riding. She will no doubt improve with distance but bring a lovely fresh record to this contest. From gate 7 she gets a lovely run, and it wouldn’t surprise to see her win this event.
