Best Bet - 2. Roadmaster ($2.15 - to place) - Ballarat, Race 2
I was very keen on the chances of Sahara Breeze in race nine but have had to replace her following this morning's scratching of key rival Loco Diablo as she's now too short. Therefore, I'm siding with the first-up Roadmaster for the Matthew Craven stable.
He's a very handy customer who ran some great races last preparation and draws for a nice run following the scratching of pole-marker Yahoo. He's a sneaky chance of upstaging the key runners in Perfect Class and School Captain, but I'm confident he can fill one of the three placings at better than even money.
Next Best - 1. Ludacrous ($2.30) - Ballarat, Race 8
She has been frustrating at times, but I'm putting my faith in Ludacrous once again to close out the final leg of the Quaddie. Kate Hargreaves’ filly has led and been run down a number of times in recent starts and driver Nathan Jack gets another opportunity to control things at the head of affairs here this evening.
If not, he can take a sit and then look to use the horse's impressive closing speed that she showed when an eye-catching second to Sweet Bella in the Nutrien Equine Classic 3YO Fillies Final at Bendigo on August 11. She hasn’t won since May, but she's rarely far away and I like her chances in a very winnable Vicbred Super Series heat.
Value Bet - 1. Vee Em Gee Macray ($13 / $3.00) - Ballarat, Race 6
Very keen to back this girl strongly for a place, but she's certainly worth something for the win at very nice odds from the inside front row draw. Despite being beaten home by Perfect In Pink and Soho Seraphine last time out – they meet again in this race – Vee Em Gee Macray produced clearly the fastest closing last half of 54.33sec to finish fourth behind star filly Joyful.
The daughter of Sweet Lou is not overly quick out, but a great barrier draw means she will get a soft trip on the pegs and is sure to be somewhere in the finish if she gets clear air in the straight. Each-way all day.
