Best Bet - 7. Cherokee Jac ($2.10) - Melton, Race 2
Alex Ashwood has really turned this pacer around in recent times, with three wins from his four runs since joining the stable.
The first of those was a dominant triumph at Ararat in mid-October and he hits this evening’s 1200m contest on the back of two soft wins at Mildura.
He might not find the front here with the speedy Im Rowdy drawn to his inside but appears to be going clearly the best of this field and I’m confident he will be making it three-straight victories this evening!
Next Best - 5. Melanion ($3.30) - Melton, Race 3
Really taken by the return of Andy Gath’s pacer in his first-up run at Cranbourne on November 19 when he got back and charged home for fourth in a race-fastest last half of 55.43sec.
It showed to me that he has returned from a break in good order, and I fancy his chances in tonight’s fast class event over the six furlongs.
He will likely get back at the start, but he’s good enough to storm home late and beat his rivals.
Value Bet - 2. El Resamo ($6.00 / $2.05) - Melton, Race 7
He’s not the safest betting proposition, but I think El Resamo can win this trotting event on his best behaviour.
David Barbetti’s charge made a mistake last time out at Hamilton and had no luck when caught wide at Charlton before that, but really caught the eye three starts ago when a strong second to Queen Of Quebec at Melton.
His last victory came at Cranbourne in May when he held out the very talented Kyvalley Hotspur and he’s drawn to potentially find the front here.
He’s a great each-way play providing he trots the whole way.
