Best Bet - 5. Rakero Rebel ($1.50) - Kilmore, Race 2
The best bet of the day comes from Kilmore Race 2 in Rakero Rebel. She's getting very short in the market now, but I think Jess Tubbs' handy four-year-old will be simply leading and winning the second event from Kilmore tonight.
Rakero Rebel competed very admirably through the Vicbred Super Series - closing off nicely from back in the field in the heat, semi-final and final - and now strikes a race where she can dictate terms from the front. If you don’t like shorties, perhaps the mare is one for your footy multis this weekend. Either way, she should be kicking us a goal.
Next Best - 11. Jeremy Wells ($4.20) - Kilmore, Race 9
Jeremy Wells is going great guns at the moment and with a little bit of luck he can close the night in winning fashion. He's already been well supported in early betting, but I'm still keen to play around the $4.20 given his recent eye-catching runs.
The Ben Yole-trained six-year-old sat back last and came with a big finale for third at Melton on September 19 after making up good ground in the sprint lane for second behind Wemade Freo at Shepparton a week earlier. He strikes a winnable event here and just needs a touch of speed on at the head of affairs to be running over the top of them late.
Value Bet - 3. Curly James ($13 / $3.30) - Kilmore, Race 7
While he's up against some big guns, I think one of the better value plays of the evening is Courtney Laker's very talented pacer in the Kilmore Cup. It looks a case of Act Now holding the front from barrier one and last year's winner Rock N Roll Doo pressing forward to the "death seat" in the early stages, which might just leave Curly James on his back in the "one-one".
He showed there isn't heaps between he and Rock N Roll Doo at Maryborough last time out when second to that horse (beaten 1.3m) and can pounce late if his key rivals overdo it throughout the 2690m trip this evening.
