Harness racing tips incoming! Dabble’s very own Tim O'Connor as broken down the racing for this Saturday. Searching high and low, he has found our loyal Dabblers the top three harness racing bets of the day. Without further ado, see Tim O'Connor's best bet, next best and value bet (and an extra special roughie bet) from around the grounds this Saturday:
Best Bet - 2. Louie Lou I ($1.80) - Melton, Race 7
This bloke finally draws a good barrier, and I won't be missing my chance to be on him when he returns to the winner's stall (I hope)! Chris Svanosio's three-year-old has started from gates six or seven in his past half-dozen outings, but has still run admirably in all bar one of those races.
The Hygain 3YO Pace on July 22 was perhaps his most impressive recent effort, when he came three-wide the last lap to be beaten narrowly in a photo finish. He's going well and if he finds the front here, I reckon we can start forming an orderly line at the payout window.
Next Best - 12. Sebastians Boy ($3.40) - Melton, Race 2
I was seriously taken by the way this bloke won his first-up race at Shepperton on August 15 and I'm keen to back him this weekend. Sebastians Boy has got to be the next best bet on the card here at Melton.
Brent Thomson's squaregaiter was three-wide the entire last lap at Shepp, but easily reeled in his rivals and surged clear in the concluding stages to win by more than 10m. He's got the wide back row draw to contend with again, but it's hard to see him not going close with a good run in transit.
Value Bet - 3. Curly James ($8.00 / $2.15) - Melton, Race 6
What a result Curly James winning the night's free-for-all would be for young trainer Courtney Laker. And I think he's got a genuine shot of doing it! Laker will prepare the five-year-old as her first ever runner in a race, with the horse's early gate speed crucial to his chances of success.
If he leads as I suspect, he can attempt to go all the way from the front or hand up to a suitable rival such as favourite Yambukian. Either way, he's got a really great chance and it's certainly a nice each-way price!
Best Roughie - 8. Night School ($26 / $5.00) - Melton, Race 8
An extra tip for all you harness racing lovers out there! We don't usually throw a roughie in the preview, but I couldn't help myself with Night School going around at such big odds in the last event on the card at Melton.
The horse is going very well, draws behind a fast beginner and I'm not keen on the favourite Stir Me Up at the odds-on quote. He's certainly no moral, but I'd be surprised if he's not somewhere in the finish with the right run.
