Best Bet - 8. Arabella Showdown ($2.60) - Geelong, Race 8
Arabella Showdown is banging the door down for a maiden win and she gets her chance at Geelong tonight.
Her two runs this preparation have resulted in runner-up placings and I was really taken by her most recent outing at this track when she flashed home late for second to the talented Homonym.
This is a much weaker race, and she looks a great chance of breaking through at a backable price.
Next Best - 5. Ringer Russ ($2.35) - Geelong, Race 5
Early speed is like gold in these one-lap dashes, and I fancy Ringer Russ can spear across and prove too slick in the first leg of the Quaddie.
He produced back-to-back front-running wins over 1200m at Melton in August and hits this assignment in good form having led all the way at Shepparton last time out.
I'd be shocked if he doesn't go very close in this and I'm happy to play at better than even money. Keen runs well.
Value Bet - 1. Fire Official ($34 / $4.40) - Geelong, Race 4
Not thrilled to be tipping a horse who has won two races from 190 starts, but this is a very, very weak race and Fire Official draws to advantage over the 1140m scamper.
Inside runs have proven a pointer to success in the one-lap races around Victoria this year and from the gate – and with his early speed – Peter Matthews' charge might just be able to produce a shock at a big price.
I'll be small the win and a bit more the place (two dividends only) on a night where value looks hard to find.
