Harness racing tips incoming! Dabble’s very own Tim O'Connor has broken down the racing for this Saturday. Searching high and low, they’ve found our loyal Dabblers the top three harness racing bets of the day. Best Bet - 5. Hot Deal ($4.40) - Melton, Race 2
While I think Stormryder in race four is close to a good thing and worth a bet if he drifts out better than $1.50, I've looked to Hot Deal as the best wager of the night at Victorian harness racing headquarters. Despite no trial and a tricky barrier draw, he's come up good odds in a race that he's more than capable of winning first-up from a spell.
Late last preparation he defeated the very talented Justalittlesip – a close-up fourth to Better Eclipse in a free-for-all event on August 5 – and ran a good second to Sly Terror from the breeze before going out for a break. He's the class runner in my mind, so let's put our trust in trainer-driver Aaron Dunn to deliver us the cash!
Next Best - 6. Sir Eros ($4.80) - Melton, Race 9
The patience is starting to wear thin with this bloke, but I'm backing him to end a run of minor placings with victory in the last event of the night at Melton. Sir Eros produced a stunning finale to finish third at Bendigo on July 8 and was then run down by the very talented Love Gun at Ballarat. Love Gun won again following that race and looked the winner last weekend once more before galloping in the straight, so the form appears strong.
While he should have held on to win when leading at Geelong last time out, Sir Eros is probably better driven with one run and I'm hoping Mark Pitt will save him for one crack at his rivals in the home straight this Saturday night.
Value Bet - 8. Post Game ($11 / 2.90) - Melton, Race 1
Post Game is a great roughie, but we just need the breaks to go his way. Jayne Davies' pacer was brilliant first-up behind Solesseo Matuca last weekend when he carved out the quickest last half and quarter of the race (54.33 sec / 27.10 sec) while wide on the track to finish sixth.
He meets five rivals from that same event in the opener at Melton, and while he has a sticky gate behind a horse that won’t lead, I've simply got to be involved on the each-way bet. And one more for the win / place punters comes up in race five, with Arggghhh looking a superb wager based on his extraordinary effort on August 5.
