2023 Winterbottom Stakes Day Preview

Horse racing tips incoming! Dabble’s very own The Mock Sports has broken down the card at Ascot this Saturday, which includes the $1.5M Group 1, the Winterbottom Stakes. They’ve done all the hard work for you finding the best horse racing tips, so you don’t even have to lift a finger – how nice is that?!

Without further ado, see The Mock Sports’ best bet, next best and value bet for the card at Ascot:

Best Bet - 1. Overpass ($3.00) - Ascot, Race 9

Our best bet comes in the big one of the day, the Winterbottom Stakes! The choice is pretty easy to make really, it just has to be Overpass. No offence to the lovely people of Perth, but the Winterbottom Stakes has to be in the lower echelon of sprinting features in the country at the moment and this horse comes out of the very best – The Everest. So off that alone he is head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Throw in that he has Perth success, winning The Quokka earlier in the year, he has to be considered the main chance by the length of the Flemington Straight.

Next Best - 3. Diamond Scene ($2.70) - Ascot, Race 1

There aren’t many more iconic duos in Australian racing then the pink and white colours of Bob Peters and Willie Pike. They combine again here to kick off a Group 1 meeting in the West as the firm favourites. We are confident that Pikey can salute here and in strong fashion as well. He has been flying through the grades and continues to raise his stock in the Western staying scene. He should be ridden like the best horse in the race, because he is, and win comfortably.

Value Bet - 5. Love Drunk Baby ($14 / $4.20) - Ascot, Race 5

This horse is more of a WA provincial horse, usually seen at the likes of Kalgoorlie, so it is nice to him back at the Saturday Ascot meetings. He has never placed at the track in 4 attempts, but they have been in much harder contests and stronger fields. Forgive his last two runs as he has been ridden upside down due to some bad jumps. If he can jump clean and get to the lead, he can certainly prove hard to catch and can surprise at big odds.
