Best Bet - 1. Zardozi ($2.40) - Flemington, Race 5
This horse wins the VRC Oaks, spoiler alert for next week’s tipping article. We have a very big opinion of this girl and always suspected she was in for a big future back when she was still racing in the NSW Winter Carnival. She comes here as the short favourite after smashing them at big odds when she finally got to step out in distance. She is a different class to this field in our opinion, she will win, win well and head to the Oaks as the firm favourite.
Next Best - 1. Apulia ($4.00) - Flemington, Race 7
The main event of the day, the VRC Derby. Say what you will about this race, no matter the field quality that lines up, it captivates the Melbourne racing crowd year in and year out. We will side with Apulia here after his impressive victory last week on Cox Plate day. He was super late when running over the top of them, given an absolute peach from Mark Zahra and we expect the same here. If he can put them away so strongly on The Valley’s straight, then we can’t wait to see what he does at Flemington.
Value Bet - 11. Ozzmosis ($15 / $4.40) - Flemington, Race 6
Cashy adores this horse, and he has been declaring him for this race for months, so we may as well back him aye? He failed to live up to market expectation last start when beaten comfortably by King’s Gambit, but to be fair, one bad run does not make a bad horse. He can bounce back here for sure, especially after his fantastic run down the straight during the jump outs and trackwork. He looks ready to go, it is his grand final, we expect a strong showing.
