Best Bet - 1. Amelia’s Jewel ($1.75) - Flemington, Race 8
Look, I don’t think this horse has the super amazing Spring that everyone thinks she will. I think she’ll just end up running into one better when she gets to the Group 1 level. However, this field is a bunch of nobodies in the grand scheme of things, and she should be getting her way quite easily here. The long straight will definitely suit her run-on style and she has been flying in the jump outs, so she should be fit enough. This can be her easy win before heading to harder company.
Next Best - 7. Princess Grace ($4.40) - Flemington, Race 7
How does anyone beat Mr Brightside? He’s short, but he has warranted such a short price tag considering his calibre of talent. The trainers are convinced that he is still somehow untapped, which is scary to think about. I love Princess Grace, but can she turn the tables? I think yes! She doesn't have to go down the rail this time, which is a massive plus, as two straight starts this prep she found herself in the inferior ground. She gets her pet distance and should fly down the long straight. At her price, she is a better bet than the short Brightside.
Value Bet - 2. Steel City ($10 / $3.30) - Flemington, Race 6
Steele City at double figure odds? Yes please! She was faultless all Autumn long until Golden Slipper Day came where she just couldn’t measure up. However, if she can handle the straight then I think she can measure up here for sure. Last time she was first up she ran super, and the trials have been sound enough for me to be getting around her. Each-way all day!
