Best Bet - 6. Canberra Legend ($2.40) - Rosehill, Race 9
This international just wins surely? Hidden Legend absolutely smashed some of our stronger staying horses on Everest day and his stable mate can most definitely do the same here. McEvoy rides, low weight and a soft deck will all be to his liking. The only query is the tricky draw, but he will have the turn of foot to overcome it I would think. Internationals are just better than the locals in staying contests, we’ve made our peace with it, so let’s join ‘em since we can’t beat ‘em!
Next Best - 1. Think About It ($1.70) - Rosehill, Race 7
Boy hasn’t this horse produced a picket fence and a half in his career so far. He has had 12 starts, 11 wins, Benchmark to The Everest, at all distances he has gotten the job done and you would have to think he continues that run here. If anything, the jump in distance helps him as he is bred to go much further than this but has never gotten the chance thanks to him being so God damn quick over the short sprint trips. He’ll win and he could quite frankly gap them if he really wanted to.
Value Bet - 7. Osipenko ($10 / $3.30) - Rosehill, Race 8
Osipenko is our bet in the big one, the Golden Eagle. He has the form to be winning a race like this. I know he has turned into a bit of a non-winner, but Fangirl, Mr Brightside, Romantic Warrior, Alligator Blood, that is the A’est of A-Grade form possible in the country right now. He is drawn absolutely perfect at Barrier 8 which should allow him to find a stalking position. He will launch late, and we would be shocked to see him finish out of the top 6. He is a massive each-way value chance for sure.
