The time-honoured Cox Plate comes around for another year and the most thrilling 2 minutes in Australian sport is set to be as thrilling as ever in the 2023 edition. We have settled on Alligator Blood. We know The Valley is a leaders’ track and he will be there from the 5th barrier. Some are saying he would have wanted to draw closer to the rail, but he was first out of the barrel, they could have picked anywhere, and they chose the 5th because the camp believes it gives him every chance. He can win this for sure and you’d be silly to leave him out of any sort of exotic.
Next Best - 6. Prowess ($4.00 / $2.00) - Moonee Valley, Race 5
This Kiwi girl can come out and smash them we feel. She came over in the Autumn time and gave our horses an absolute thumping and showed us how they do it over the ditch and we wouldn’t be shocked if it happens again. She will push right to the front and look the winner for a long way and her price is simply confusing considering she has never finished out of the top 3.
Value Bet - 9. Chosen Legend ($6.00 / $2.25) - Moonee Valley, Race 2
We have been flying with the races for the two-year-old horses lately. Winners have been tipped in the Gimcrack Stakes, the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes and the Kirkham Plate, all horses of which were picked at great value. We side with Chosen Legend here to try and grab a 4th big 2YO win for the season. Rarely do you see a jockey of the calibre that is Zac Purton in a race like this so that is a massive plus to have him on board. Throw in that his trials have looked good and a winning pedigree, he can win at nice odds.
