It's one of the major golfing events of the year – The Open Championship. The best of the best all come out to play at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake England for the purse of a cool $16.5 million. Law of averages, Rory is due to win a Major – his previous eight results second at the US Open in 2023, tied for seventh at the PGA in 2023, third at the 2022 Open Championship, tied for fifth at the US Open in 2022, eighth at the PGA in 2022 and second at the Masters in 2022.
Recent form is key in The Open Championships with 16 of the last 22 winners having won a tournament in the season prior. Rory won the week before his last Major victory at the PGA Championship in 2014. Rory is the premium ball striker on the PGA Tour and has the tournament on his club this week.
Next Best – Tommy Fleetwood – $21
Tommy grew up locally, he has been playing amazing golf. Still searching for the elusive PGA Tour victory and first major. Tommy grew up playing links golf, he has contended at The Open in years gone by.
Tommy hits the ball exceptionally well and finds a fairway regularly gaining 11% in accuracy over the field last week at the Scottish Open in trying conditions. He can pitch the ball well, keeps the ball nice and low and will be playing in front of his home crowd.
Value Bet – Talor Gooch – $81
Talor Gooch is a man who has had the most incredible season on LIV in 2023. He was 3x winner, highlighted by his wire-to-wire win at LIV Adelaide back in April. LIV has a great schedule for Major’s and Talor will be coming in fresh with having played LIV London last week.
Hits the ball laser straight and finding fairways is a premium this week at Hoylake. If he gets going his game is down the middle and onto the green, if he had won 3 PGA tour events this year he would be way further up the rankings.
