Check out all our expert NRL tips for Round 23 below:

Game 1 – Sydney Roosters vs Manly Sea Eagles, Thursday 3rd August, 7.50pm

It’s do or die for both the Roosters and Sea Eagles in what shapes as the most vital game of Round 23 – and one either side could easily win. Both have had mixed seasons and would have expected to be in the top eight now but have work to do. The Roosters have had trouble scoring points all year and for that reason I like Manly 1-12 in a tight struggle.

Game 2 – Gold Coast Titans vs New Zealand Warriors, Friday 4th August, 6pm

The Titans are on a high after an upset win over the Cowboys last week while the Warriors continue to confound the experts and look finals certainties. The Titans are likely to be without key man AJ Brimson who has been named despite an abdominal injury and he will be missed if he fails a late fitness test...I see the Warriors winning and like a Shaun Johnson anytime try.

Game 3 – Penrith Panthers vs Melbourne Storm, Friday 4th August, 8pm

What a game this will be between the NRL’s two heavyweights. The Panthers have been the more consistent of the two this year and at home, I see them scoring a narrow win – Panthers 1-12 on the strength of Nathan Cleary’s general ship and Dylan Edwards’ amazingly consistent form at fullback.

Game 4 – North Queensland Cowboys vs Brisbane Broncos, Saturday 5th August, 3pm

The Cowboys will be without suspended centre Val Holmes and will miss his penetration out wide against a formidable Brisbane team. The Broncos look the hottest team in the game to me at the moment and I see them winning with a Selwyn Cobbo anytime try a good option.

Game 5 – Dolphins vs Newcastle Knights, Saturday 5th August, 5.30pm

The Dolphins have well and truly hit the wall after a great start to their debut season and will find the going tough yet again against a Newcastle team chasing five straight wins. The Knights could even find themselves in the top eight by the end of the weekend if results go their way and that should be enough to secure a Newcastle head-to-head win.

Game 6 – South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Cronulla Sharks, Saturday 5th August, 7.35pm

The Sharks are another team struggling for momentum in recent weeks and are still in the top eight but slipping down the ladder fast. They failed to score a point against Penrith last weekend and Souths’ ability to keep the scoreboard clicking over should prove the difference. I see a good win to Souths at home – even 13 plus.

Game 7 – Parramatta Eels vs St. George Illawarra Dragons, Sunday 6th August, 2pm

The Eels have been down on form in recent weeks and a clash with the lowly Dragons could be just what they need to get their act together again. Saints have been better since punting unpopular coach Anthony Griffin and Ben Hunt will have to be watched but I can’t see them getting near the Eels. If Parra cut loose – and they should – OVERS is the way to go.

Game 8 – Canberra Raiders vs Wests Tigers, Sunday 6th August, 4.05pm

The Raiders were horrible at home against the Knights last week and the Tigers are terrible most weeks – even though they came close to beating the Rabbitohs last weekend. It’s a dreadful game in prospect and with both sides struggling to score points, I think UNDERS is a safe bet.
