Are you as excited as us about the start of the new NFL season? We've been waiting a long while for this, but now the new season is upon us. A lot has changed between seasons, so we are super keen to see how each team will perform. Can Kansas City Chiefs continue their extraordinary form, or will a new team step up to the plate?
Before the first game kicks off, let us take you through a preview of what we think will happen throughout the 2023 season. And as you know, many things can go down in any given season – so there is bound to be a number of curveballs.
Check out all our NFL tips and preview below:
Who Will Win The AFC East?
The Bills are aiming to win the division for a fourth straight year – a mighty feat if they can achieve it. They will start as favourites – but the field is closing in. Of the contenders, the Jets shape as the biggest danger having signed star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Miami had one of the worst defences in the league last season and have addressed that, hiring respected Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator. How quickly he can transform the D is the big question for the Dolphins. The bookies don’t fancy the Patriots, but they could prove a surprise packet in coming weeks. They aren’t as bad a football team as the bookies think. Could be value there.
Who Will Win The AFC North?
Many regard the AFC North as the strongest division in the NFL, with the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers all looking good before a ball is kicked. So, this one is looking tough to tip.
Cincinnati are the favourites with most of the bookies, having won the division last year and I see them going top again, just ahead of the Ravens who have made some strong additions to their roster. Quarterback Lamar Jackson, signed on a massive deal, is their main man.
Who Will Win The AFC South?
This could be one of the toughest divisions to pick early on, with the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Tennessee Titans all drafting potentially match-winning quarterbacks of the future over the course of the summer.
The Colts have dominated the division in recent years but last season the Jaguars won it thanks to the combination of superstars Trevor Lawrence and Doug Pederson. If they stay healthy, I see the Jags again taking the prize, although they took many of their rivals by surprise last season and that element is now gone.
Who Will Win The AFC West?
With the best player in the game, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs are hot favourites to win the battle of the west. The Super Bowl champs are beatable – there are questions marks over their young defence and inconsistent offence – with the Chargers looming as their biggest danger.
The Chargers have been steady improvers in recent years and this could be their time to seriously challenge the Chiefs, with the Denver Broncos, having signed Sean Payton, also a chance given a good early run.
Who Will Win The NFC East?
Despite losing last year’s Super Bowl to Kansas City, the Philadelphia Eagles are strong favourites to win this division. Their greatest danger shapes as the Dallas Cowboys, who have retained the nucleus of last year’s squad and added some depth in key positions.
Pundits used to have little respect for the NFC East, dubbing it the ‘NFC Least’, but with Philadelphia, Dallas and the New York Giants each recording 10 plus wins last year, that perception has changed and the Giants are also looking strong.
Who Will Win The NFC North?
A really tough division to pick, with several strong contenders to finish on top. The bookies like the Detroit Lions and I have to go along with them purely on the depth and as well as the experience of their squad.
But Green Bay, with some new players in key positions, could challenge them if they get their combinations right early. The big question is – is there life after Aaron Rodgers? The Chicago Bears have also been on the steady climb upwards in recent seasons and cannot be written off.
Who Will Win The NFC South?
With all four teams likely to start the season with new quarterbacks, the NFC South could prove a lottery in coming weeks. New Orleans, having signed Derek Carr from the Las Vegas Raiders, will start as favourites and are my pick to go all the way to the top.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the pick of the division last year but the retirement of Tom Brady makes the future look bleak. Having spent big on bolstering their defence, the Falcons are a team that could prove a surprise packet.
Who Will Win The NFC West?
San Francisco don’t have a clear contender as starting quarterback days away from season kickoff, yet are favourites to win the division – such is the overall strength of their squad. They won 13 games last year despite injuries to their top two QBs and I see them dominating again.
The Seahawks loom as their greatest danger, having spent big money bolstering key positions in their squad. The Rams and Cardinals did little last season and I see it being more of the same this time around.
