Best Bet - 6. Designs ($2.70) - Ballarat, Race 3
Playing in my hometown of Ballarat tonight and I've landed on a maiden trotter as my best bet of the evening. Always a little worried when you side with a squaregaiter who has galloped at her most recent outing, but it was that performance at Geelong earlier this month that has me believing the four-year-old is ready to win.
Designs made a mistake at the start and lost many metres but chased hard and closed off brilliantly from the tail of the field to be beaten just 1.7m on the line! It was an eye-catching performance (and she was well backed there!), so I think we should be giving her another chance tonight!
Next Best - 4. Majestic Pride ($1.95) - Ballarat, Race 8
This really does look a good race for the talented, albeit naughty, Majestic Pride. Michael Bellman's eight-year-old mare can often make mistakes in her races, but I'm hoping she's in a good mood this evening for what will be a 70th career start.
She was well beaten with a tough run last time out at Maryborough, but before that had been competitive with the handy Courmayeur and Queen Of Quebec at Bendigo. I'll be holding my breath at the start, but if Majestic Pride trots away nicely I think Mr Bellman will seize the opportunity and send his girl towards the front in a race where she might just have the class edge.
Value Bet - 10. Khans Creed ($23 / $4.40) - Ballarat, Race 1
Kicking off the Ballarat card with an each-way bet on roughie Khans Creed, who has been in good form of late for trainer Phillip Attard. The four-year-old was a dominant winner of his maiden at this track two starts ago.
Then he backed up that performance with a fast-finishing third at Melton on September 1 when he charged from last (in a race-fastest final quarter) at the turn to grab third. I think we strike again while he's racing well and have something on him at big odds in an even race tonight!
And just like that – you've got three awesome tips. Isn’t that awesomely awesome? Yeah, we think so!
